Crating Your Dog

There are different reasons for crating your beloved canine; protecting your dog from his surroundings and vice-versa are two of the most essential. Consider that dogs have a den instinct, and a crate is their own private, cozy place to feel safe and secure. It is also very often the best way to potty train. Before you rush out and purchase a pet crate, here are some things to consider:

~Find a store or company that sells pet crates.
~Figure out the type of crate you will need. If it’s for home use, choose a heavy gauge wire crate for the best ventilation.
~For maximum comfort, there are many soft sided dog crates to choose from.
~Choose a crate that is 1 1/2 times the length of your dog when fully grown.

A Road Trip – Part 7

The show is over, it was such fun, now the hardest part has just begun! Saying goodbye!

Traveling around this great country of ours with our dogs is great fun. Wherever we go we meet new friends and visit old ones that we haven’t seen since we were last at a particular show. We spend some time plotting venues where we can meet again and do shows together.

It is now time to pack up the Grooming Supplies, Soft crates, luggage, and the dreaded dirty laundry. All this suff fit nicely into the van when we started the trip. Now it seems we have doubled our space requirements and it isn’t because we have one a lot of trophies. Maybe it’s because someone in our household has purchased a lot of memorabilia. It is important stuff she

Says. Oh Well! It’s all packed up, The dog are in their Kennel Carriers and we’re Off, headed for home.

There are many benefits of using a dog crate. For some pet owners, a dog crate can help break bad habits that their improperly trained dogs may have developed over the years. A dog crate also promotes happiness in dogs as they feel more secure and safe in their own space, hence, reducing behavioral problems such as excessive chewing and barking. In addition, keeping a dog in a crate teaches him to “hold it” until he can go in an appropriate place, which can help him develop bladder control.

There are many choices in dog crates and one of them is soft dog crate.  Soft dog crates are made of lightweight fabric that is suitable for crate-trained dogs. However, they are not ideal for chewers, aggressive or nervous dogs. Another choice is a plastic crate which is good for a dog who travels a lot and is basically the only method of containment accepted by airlines. Metal wire dog crates are ideal for home use.

A plastic dog crate provides a sense of security for your pet.  It is a place where they can go whenever they need to get away from the high activity level of your home, or just want some peace and quiet time. It is a dog’s natural fondness toward dens that makes dog crates so useful to house train puppies. Because puppies will not normally soil a limited-sized ‘den,’ crates are really effective for helping puppies gain control over their bladders. Also, they help reduce the number of accidents that you will have to clean up, and cut in half the time it takes to teach puppies where they are supposed to relieve themselves.

When it comes to house training a new puppy, there is nothing that makes the training faster or easier than a puppy crate. By placing the puppy in a crate that is just the size that he or she needs to lay down and no more, house training is usually completed in about 10 to 14 days.
