Having Fun With Your Pet – Part 1

Doing things with and enjoying the company of your dog is an important part of dog ownership. Tying your dog to his dog house and leaving him there, or sticking him in a kennel run and forgetting about him except at meal time are not good ownership practices.

No dog wants to be a stay at home dog. They are active critters and they want to have fun. Most dogs need more activity then just twice a day walks in the neighborhood on a dog leash. You can teach them cool dog tricks, take them to a dog park and let them run, or into the woods to chase other critters. Each of these however has drawbacks which we will discuss in future blogs.

There are many organized activities you can do with your dog. Organizations such as American Kennel Club and United Kennel Club offer organized events for pure bred dogs. such as Conformation (some call it a beauty contest), Obedience, Rally, Agility, Tracking, and Herding.

Becoming an active member of your local kennel club is a good and safe way to train and bond with your dog. Whether you have a mixed breed or pure breed dog it is important to show him the love and affection he has for you and expects from you in return.
