Communicating With Your Dog – Part 4
Did you know your dog can read? He reads you like a book. He knows when it’s dinner time because, as a rule you eat on a schedule and he knows what the schedule is. He not only knows your dinner schedule, he also knows his. If you forget his, he’ll remind you. If you have a habit of sharing your dinner with him he’ll remind you of that too.
You have your car keys in your hand. You call Fido into the house, because you are going somewhere and you are going to put him in his dog crate.
Fido sees the keys. He knows you won’t leave him outside while you’re gone. He’s not a dumb dog. He knows that if he doesn’t come in you won’t leave, and he doesn’t want you to go. So you end up chasing him around the yard until he’s had his fun and you’re too tired to go.
Your body language is a key to your dog’s understanding of what has transpired or is about to transpire at your house. If you have friends over and you greet them cheerfully, Fido will usually greet them cheerfully too.
