Things I’ve Learned From My Dog – Part 8
One of the most important things a dog owner should learn when he gets a new dog is to anticipate what your dog is going to do when you’re not around. You can’t be home all the time and you can’t take him everywhere with you.
Don’t leave your dog in the back yard to his own devices unless you are certain what those devices are. Dogs are very creative. Don’t leave him in a kennel run outside if he is not protected from the elements or if he barks a lot. Be considerate of your neighbors. Many dog owners will keep their dogs inside in a wire pen or wire dog crate
, where they are comfortable in a place they call their own. If the dog is well trained, he often is allowed to be loose in the house.
Don’t leave your dog stranded where he has to make choices or decisions on his own. He needs to feel comfortable in his environment. He needs to know you haven’t abandoned him and that you are coming back.
